Reflection
As I completed the Genre Analysis assignment, I found myself deeply analyzing my research more than I normally would. This allowed me to construct my ideas for my Literature Review more easily and accurately. My topic focused on the emotional aspects of Pediatric Oncology Nursing.
A piece I decided to analyze was a journal entry from a Pediatric Oncology Nurse, Ali Alfaro, who shared to her readers what her daily life consists of and how her job has affected her in both good and bad ways. I found this journal very helpful for my research because since I'm looking at the emotional aspects of Pediatric Oncology Nursing, the author shared her personal experiences which made the readers understand how rewarding her job can be but also heartbreaking at the same time.
Another piece I chose to analyze was a documentary of a young girl, Victoria Enmon, who fought hard to overcome leukemia. This young girl spread positivity to her family, friends, and teammates always. Her death motivated her loved ones to begin a movement called, The Extra Life Movement in order to raise funds to help children who are battling cancer. I found this documentary to be unique because Victoria is remembered by her family for her positivity and after her death, they continued to spread Victoria's positivity by helping others in the same situation as her. This story shows many emotional aspects of the affect cancer can have on family members and loved ones.
When writing my Genre Analysis, it was a bit time consuming and it took constant to revision to make sure my explanations were clear to my audience. After looking over my paper, I became satisfied not just with my paper, but my genre choices overall. I believe my two pieces were strong and provided me with great insight of what its like dealing with cancer from both the nursing perspective and the patient and family perspective.
