My Growth As A Writer
Before, I would be able to write essays with distractions going on around me and not feel so bothered. Now, I need quiet in order to concentrate on what I'm writing. Listening to music while I write still allows me to relax and focus more on the task at hand.
After taking RWS 1301, I believe my writing has changed. I now see the importance of thoroughly reading any research in order to provide a more informative paper. Occasionally working on assignments as a group allowed me to see the different ways my classmates worked. I found everyone has their own methods and some work better than others. Before I would prefer to write my first drafts on paper, but throughout the semester I found it way easier to draft on the computer because it is easier to revise and add/delete any ideas. We were taught to break down the writing process which really helped me develop my ideas more effectively and easily. In the near future, I see myself continuing to use a broken down writing process in order to keep growing as a writer. Of course the process can change depending on the assignment however for most essays this process can be very beneficial.
My writing changed greatly during the semester. In the past, I would write and turn in papers without having a first draft and in the beginning of the semester, I learned that was a big mistake. I now constantly look over my work and revise my writings as a whole piece rather than sentence-by-sentence.
I now view "effective" writing as any piece of writing where an author truly expressed themselves through their work and incorporated the appropriate research clearly and accurately. Every writer has the potiential to be an effective writer as long as they maintain an open mindset always leaving space to grow.
